Macroeconomic Modelling and Forecasting Manual Project Launched

A five day regional retreat was held in Kigali, Rwanda from 8 to12 February 2010 to brainstorm on the Macroeconomic Modelling and Forecasting Manual. The retreat which was attended by 13 officials is considered as a crucial first step in the development of the modelling and forecasting reference manual that will be used as a guide to consolidate achievements made in the area thus far.

 
HR Workshop Conducted in Uganda
For the second year running, MEFMI conducted a regional workshop for directors, deputy directors or principal officers responsible for human resource management and development in client institutions - namely central banks and ministries of finance or planning.  The event which was initially a biennial seminar is now being conducted as an annual workshop.  The format was changed at the request of human resource managers who felt that it is critical for them as practitioners to be involved in the continuous development of strategic thinking and approaches to employee management. 
 
New Director – Macroeconomic Management Programme
Nomusa Tibane – an economist by profession, takes over the reins of the Macroeconomic Management  Programme from Dr Ephraim Kaunga, whose tour of duty came to an end in December 2009. A holder of BA in Economics from the University of Swaziland and an MSc Economics from the University of East Anglia United Kingdom. Nomusa has more than twenty years experience in macro-economic analysis and planning, medium term development plan formulation, budgetary analysis and public finance, trade negotiations, poverty planning and management, project management and donor co-ordination.
 
Rose Phiri Joins MEFMI as Director
As the tour of duty for Steve Mkandawire has come to an end, he hands over the control of the MEFMI Finance and Administration Department to Rose Phiri, a highly experienced Accountant. A holder of a BA in Economics and Business Administration, Rose is also a qualified Chartered Accountant.
