MEFMI Countries and Regional Economic Integration
As we draw to the end of a very difficult year for most countries in the MEFMI region due to the global financial crisis, we bring you yet another insightful issue of the MEFMI FORUM. Not only does the issue shift focus from the negative impact of the global financial crisis; our thrust in this issue is on how the MEFMI region can be the trend-setter in macroeconomic and debt management – specifically in the creation of viable and lasting economic management strategies for the MEFMI region.
 
Malawi First MEFMI Country to use MEFMI Private Capital Monitoring System
As MEFMI progresses with the development of the Private Capital Monitoring System (PCMS), Malawi becomes the first country in the MEFMI region to use the software. This development comes in the wake of Malawi finalising recently conducted survey of foreign assets and liabilities and investors’ perceptions. 
 
MEFMI and ADB Support Zimbabwe to Explore Strategies for Addressing Public Debt Burden
Following a request from the Government of Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Finance, MEFMI facilitated an in-country Debt Sustainability Analysis (DSA) workshop that was held in Mutare, Zimbabwe.  The workshop, which was held from 3 to 7 August 2009, was organised at a time the Government of Zimbabwe is seeking to reengage the international community in an effort to find the most feasible debt relief initiatives for Zimbabwe.
 
MEFMI Fellows Commence Their Training
Following the recently concluded rigorous selection exercise to recruit the 7th intake of MEFMI  Fellows, the Secretariat held a two day orientation workshop for the new Candidate Fellows. The orientation is a platform used by the Secretariat to introduce candidates to the operations, principles and policies of the Fellows Development Programme while identifying the Fellows’ skills gaps as they prepare to undertake their Customised Training Plans (CTPs) in their areas of specialisation. The current enrollment is 16 Candidate Fellows drawn from client institution in MEFMI member countries, namely Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
