MEFMI 2012 Work Programme Commences As Planned

The MEFMI Financial Cooperation Partners held their annual Technical Cooperating Partners consultative meeting at the Secretariat on 8 March 2012.  The meeting was attended by representatives of the Partners from the Government of Sweden, the Government of Norway, the Government of the Netherlands and the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF). Chairing the meeting was the Programme Manager for Sweden, Mr Elphas Ojiambo.

 
Tanzania Considers Forming a Centralised Debt Management Office

A joint World Bank and MEFMI mission visited Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from 23 January to 3 February 2012, to assist in drawing a Debt Management Reform Plan.  This followed a debt management performance assessment mission (DeMPA) that was undertaken by the two institutions in July 2010. The plan will be used to help the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania to improve its public and publicly guaranteed debt management. 
 
Rwanda Focuses on the Importance of Diaspora Remittances

In recognition of the importance of workers’ remittances in Rwanda, and the challenges faced by Rwanda in the compilation of reliable and accurate remittances statistics for Balance of Payments (BOP) purposes, the National Bank of Rwanda (BNR) requested MEFMI to provide technical assistance in capacity building in designing a practical compilation methodology for remittances statistics for Rwanda.
 
MEFMI Hosts Maiden Regional Domestic Debt Operations & Management Workshop

The MEFMI Debt Management Programme recently reviewed its debt management curriculum in order to ensure it is aligned to the changing regional debt capacity needs in this area.  This new development saw the Programme conduct, under the reviewed curriculum, the first Regional Domestic Debt Operations and Management workshop. The workshop was jointly held with the MEFMI Financial Sector Management Programme,  from 5 to 14 March 2012 in Kampala, Uganda.
